Why Did Jesus Praise the Crook - The Parable of the Shrewd Manager

Everybody has worked with this guy. He gets his two weeks’ notice, and for those two weeks he does nothing for the company that let him go. He takes the clients to lunch. He makes sure that when he lands somewhere new, the people who matter will remember him kindly. Nobody calls that loyalty. But nobody calls it stupid, either.

Jesus told that story — and then His master praised the man. This may be the hardest parable in the Gospels, and most of us have quietly skipped it. Start with why it makes us uncomfortable, then follow the article into the room where it was told: the disciples are being taught, and the Pharisees, who loved money, are listening and sneering.
