This, Then and Finally
There are a LOT of books written about Matthew Chapter 24. This podcast is NOT the last word on the subject. It is a perspective, and we think one worth noting.
Look, the discussion of End Times sells books! It gets clicks. But the question to ask is how it will change your perspective today. I think the beauty of prophecy is in the not knowing. It draws you to the text. It is human nature to want to know. But if Jesus had said His return happens Easter Sunday in the year 2253 (or whatever, pick any date near or far), does that change how you read this?
I say this because many of you will hear this podcast and want to argue about it. I'm not denying you couldn't. You could even be on some pretty solid ground. I still have more questions than answers. This podcast is a perspective to consider. I hope it drives you back to the text. Those debates are worth having. I don't deny any of them. I engage eagerly with them. The bottom line is no prophet ever gives you the view of the valleys ... only the peaks. Daniel and John did give us some timelines to work with (3.5 years) and for that we are forever grateful. But even so, we don't know where even that plane lands. But if you're like me, we love looking up to see if it's coming in for a landing.
Guard your heart and stay curious.
Deuteronomy 29:29: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever…”
But don't forget (and this is one of my favorites):
Proverbs 25.2: “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”
