The Sabbath Showdown At Bethesda

In our Red-Letter Bible study we have encountered Jesus healing a man at the pool of Bethesda. Just to quickly recap, Jesus comes into the sheep gate, the northern court of the temple. Don't miss this. Jesus, the Lamb of God, arrives in Jerusalem through the "House of Mercy". He gets the man who has been visiting this place for 38 years to confess his need for healing and to reveal that this system doesn't work (drawing on a much bigger metaphor). Jesus heals the man instantly and tells him to get up, take his mat with him. This raises the eyebrows of the Jewish religious elite who seem more concerned with their own version of Rabbinic law than they are with the fact that this man is able to walk out of the temple after 38 years of clawing the floor to get to the water when it bubbled up... never to even come close to being healed. 

What we witness now is how a hardened heart refuses to see the very God in front of them for which their laws are intended to honor.
