How Do I Not?
We Christians know what we shouldn’t do. What we have less grasp of is how not to. And we’re not alone. Paul wrestled with the same thing: “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.”
I like to think of it this way. You’ve got an old car. Years of driving the same roads have worn it into habits. It pulls toward the same old ruts. It burns a little oil. You stopped noticing a long time ago.
Then something happens. The car gets a brand-new engine, and a new driver behind the wheel. That’s you, made new. But the body is the same. Same dents. Same worn tires. Still out of alignment. From the curb it looks like the same old car, and the moment you loosen your grip, it drifts right back toward the ruts.
So here’s the question. You’re the new driver in an old car. How do you keep it out of the ruts it spent years wearing in?
