Deception In the Modern Church
I’ve found a fascination with the history of dispensational theology. It's amazing how pervasive it is in our modern interpretation of the Bible (and how deceptive). I bet if you asked people who thought that the rapture was going to happen before tribulation to raise their hand, you’d get an overwhelming majority. Further, I’m betting for anyone that has studied end times they also hold the following firmly:
- Tribulation Period is 7 Years
- The period starts with a 7-year peace deal by the Antichrist
- In the Middle of the period, the peace deal is broken, and the antichrist desecrates the temple
- The rapture of the church is before the presumed 7-year tribulation
- There has to be a new Jewish temple for the tribulation to fall into place.
Every one of these statements is either fabrication, mis-interpretation (specifically of Daniel’s 70th week) or contradicts specific statements within scriptural context.
Major online teachers who espouse this theology include John Barnett, Jack Hibbs, and John MacArthur (and others) getting millions of online listeners. Voddie Baucham and even N T Wright take a more traditional approach and directly confront the teaching as deceptive.
After all this, I land on one warning by Christ:
Mat 24:24-26
Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
- Christ will not arrive in secret to remove his church before tribulation! Christ says is as plainly as anyone willing to listen can hear it! -
