Apostasy
It's a subject that comes up again and again. "Once saved, always saved". And inevitably, embedded in that argument is "They went out from us, because they were not of us…” (1 John 2:19) leading to the response that if someone leaves the faith they were never saved in the first place. So, we tackle that head on. Let your discerning heart guide your faith. Sometimes, when you hear something like this, your inclination is to remain quiet. After all that's your preacher saying that (and it often is!).
However, your persistence in faith is grounded in the Word of God, not somebody else's interpretation (including mine!). Let the scriptures speak. I don't know if this is the definitive last word we'll have to say on the subject. It does grind at a lot of people - and it should! For me, I'm trying to elevate my understanding of scripture above the linear thinking level. God is outside of time, but things are presented so that we can have a better understanding. We want to have an A then B then C approach (I know I do). But the more I study, the more I realize that its ABC all at once. Having said that, I can no more understand it than to simply walk my understanding back to an obedience level of comprehension. I can and will always dig deeper, but one thing is always clear. There are things that require obedience. You can dig deeper into the why but stay obedient along the way. We will do a podcast on obedience in the future. I think it's important for me to study out and for others to consider. For now, we are going down the rabbit hole of apostasy.
